Ditchling to Host South Down's First Eco Fair

31 Mar 2010

Ditchling is to host the South Down's first ever Eco Fair on 10 April 2010.

Sussex residents really are embracing eco living and the event aims to get them in touch with some of the county's most exciting and innovative businesses. People can learn all about the new incentives and money saving opportunities available from things like proper insulations, LED lighting and solar panels.

The fair, from 11am - 4pm in Ditchling Village Hall, is organised by HKD Transition, local residents of Hassocks, Keymer and Ditchling who are working together to make the transition to more sustainable communities.

Juliet Merrifield, a member of HKD Transition, says “We live in an oil-dependent world, but in the future supplies of oil and gas will be less available and much more expensive. New government plans for 'feed-in tariffs' (coming on 1 April) will make alternative energy sources much more affordable to ordinary people. Already a walk around our villages reveals roofs with solar panels – we expect these pioneers will now be joined by many more. As our local Superhome demonstrates, insulating our older homes thoroughly can reduce energy consumption by two thirds – and the bills go down dramatically”

List of expected exhibitors. Energy Savings Trust – for impartial information and advice Solar energy suppliers – Aquarius Solar Heating, Suntrader, Southern Solar, Eco Save Technologies Other renewable energy suppliers – GrEnergy and Blue2Green Plumbing Sustainable architects and energy advisers – George Baxter and Maria Hawton-Mead Wood stove suppliers – Home Heat Other green supplies – Cover's Eco Store, Nigel's Eco Store, NEF Superhome

Getting there: Ditchling Village Hall is on Lewes Rd, in the centre of Ditchling. There is free parking behind the hall.

Refreshments: Teas, coffees and home-made goodies will be available at the Eco Fair. Two local pubs, a tea room and a local deli are within a two minute walk.
