Good News re Beacon Road from PCSO Armstrong

23 Jul 2010

Good news from James Armstrong, our local Police Community Support Officer:

I (PCSO Armstrong) have recently been able to get the Roads Policing Unit to risk assess Beacon Road to allow me to conduct speed checks and I have been given permission to place ‘Stop Speeding’ posters in the area. The posters have been put up and today (22/07/2010) I conducted my first speed check in the road; within half an hour my colleague and I caught 10 drivers who were exceeding the speed limit. These drivers will be sent advisory letters warning them that their actions will not be tolerated and if they are caught again they will be getting a visit from the Roads Policing Unit with an official warning. If any of the drivers are from the local area I plan to visit them myself to personally hand them the letter and introduce myself as the new officer for the area.

I hope to be able to conduct speed checks in Beacon Road at least once a week and plan to do it at varying times of the day so that drivers will get used to seeing me around and not know when I will be there. I really do hope this helps the situation but I also need as many of you as possible to keep using the Operation Crackdown system (www.operationcrackdown.org) and keep reporting speeders and anti-social drivers when ever you can. The more the Police and the Highways Agency know the more we can do!
