New Village Sign

| I have recently seen your new sign and like it very much, I can understand some of the symbolism on it but have a couple of questions. I can identify the oak leaves on the underside, but what significance are the other leaves around the top? Also, to whom does the pen refer? |

'Dear Nick
Here is Brian Clutterbuck's reply; (Brian is Chairman of Parish Council):
I'm delighted to see that someone has visited the new village sign and likes it.
In the original drawing by Shirley Cox the leaves were part of the pattern but when Nigel Stenning started on the sign he made them in the form of Beech leaves which is a fairly common tree in the area.
The pen represents the artistic heritage of the Village from Gill who invented "Gill San" typeface to Edward Johnson who was responsible for the typeface used on the London Underground and all those artists, sculptors and writers who still live and work here.
The sheep, incidentally, is a Southdown.
I must admit that I delighted with the finished sign and hope that it will give pleasure (and perhaps queries) for some years to come.
Brian
