Ditchling and Spatham Lane Community Speedwatch groups

Residents of Ditchling are well aware of the volume and speed of traffic going through the village and surrounding roads and may like to know that they can take useful action by joining Community Speedwatch. This is a national initiative linking volunteers with the police and Ditchling has had a local group since 2018. The prime objectives are to raise drivers’ awareness of the need to keep to appropriate and legal speed limits and to encourage road safety.

We welcome new volunteers who can give about an hour of their time per week, on a flexible basis. Please follow the instructions below to join the Ditchling group. If you have any queries, before or during the process, please email the group at ditchlingcsw@gmail.com

SInce the introduction of a 40 mph limit, residents of Spatham Lane have formed their own separate group, which you may be able to join if that is suitable for you. See the instructions below.

Visit the national Community Speedwatch web site:

You now wait to be approved and should hear from one of the local coordinators. Now you may proceed to online training, which you will find on the same national web site after registering and logging in. Once the online training is complete you can confirm this to the coordinator who contacted you. Practical training is then organised by the Ditchling group during one or two regular roadside sessions. After that you will be contacted, usually weekly, to check your availability and can play a full part in the group.
